AUTONOMOUS TRUCKING

E-Mobi Domain Controller

The E-Mobi Domain Controller is a proprietary, high-performance central compute unit that will enable E-Mobi to deliver a full suite of SAE Level 2+ through Level 4 autonomous driving solutions.

Strategic Autonomous Trucking Terminals

Terminals play an important role in connecting shippers, carriers, and fleets to the E-Mobi Autonomous Freight Network (AFN). Our growing roster of strategically located terminals creates a network effect where increased numbers of terminals and mapped lanes improve the overall value of our autonomous trucking service network.

Digital Maps for Autonomous Trucking

Every autonomous truck utilizes our proprietary three-dimensional high-definition digital maps. These maps serve as a digital pathway for the L4 self-driving trucks to follow and support nearly all aspects of E-Mobi autonomous trucking system by statistically encoding predictive knowledge of the road environment that has been accumulated over time to ensure optimal safety and efficiency.

Autonomous Trucking Made Possible with E-Mobi Connect

E-Mobi Connect is a robust proprietary oversight and monitoring system helping to ensure every autonomous truck operating on the E-Mobi Autonomous Freight Network (AFN) is healthy and functioning as it was designed.

Transformational E-Mobi Partnerships

As the leading autonomous trucking company, E-Mobi prides itself on delivering the best technologies and services to its customers and only works with world-class suppliers, manufacturers and service providers to ensure E-Mobi customer experience remains unsurpassed.

Autonomous Trucking Benefits

Lane Centering

One of the ways to demonstrate the benefits of autonomous trucking is to break down the tasks of driving to its basic fundamentals. One of the core responsibilities of any driver is to keep the vehicle centered within the driving lane. In this graphic, we compare the effectiveness of our autonomous trucking system to that of a human driver.

As you can see, E-Mobi’s autonomous system does a far better job keeping the vehicle centered within the lane by keeping the vehicle centered to within 5 cm.

Throttle Control

In this next example, we look at the basic task of accelerating and braking. The graph compares E-Mobi’s autonomous driving system’s accelerating and braking performance against that of a human driver.

The acceleration curve indicates the autonomous system is significantly more effective while accelerating and braking and this positively impacts brake wear and fuel efficiency.

Fuel Efficiency

The University of California San Diego conducted a comprehensive study comparing heavy duty trucks equipped with E-Mobi’s autonomous system to the same model of truck operated manually by a human driver and found that truck’s operating autonomously were 10% more fuel efficient than trucks driven by a human driver.

Autonomous Vehicle Safety: A Holistic Approach

Proving the safety of autonomous vehicles is a significant milestone in our mission to make fully driverless trucking a reality. To that end, we’ve developed a world-class safety framework that goes far beyond current automotive industry regulations.

Functional Safety

Both simple and complex systems in our driverless trucks are designed to be fail operational, meaning they will be able to function safely even in the event of an electrical or electronic malfunction.

Safety of the Intended Function (SOTIF)

As with any vehicle, rare road situations can pose risks even when all equipment is working correctly. That’s why we apply a design technique called SOTIF (Safety of the Intended Function). We exhaustively search for rare but possible situations and then design and validate our system to handle them.

Data-Driven Substantive Safety

At E-mobi, we evaluate safety from different perspectives to create a comprehensive approach. This includes gathering and analyzing data to ensure that all outcomes can be detected, contained and managed safely, through simulating road scenarios and replaying sensor data to discover gaps. These activities ensure our design is substantively safe to operate.

Operational Safety

While our driverless truck technology targets driver-out applications, operators still work directly or indirectly with the trucks during testing, servicing, and dispatching. We’ve created safety processes to make sure people and trucks interact safely.

Product Safety

Our approach to the safety of autonomous vehicles expands on automotive industry-standards and covers safety hazards that can be detected normally by drivers and service techs. For example, our automated safety tools check the health of the system and expanded pre-trip inspections make sure the truck and autonomous system are ready before they are used.

Cybersecurity

Tightly coupled with functional safety, cybersecurity applies to electric systems, components, software, and connectivity of the vehicles. Cybersecurity considerations are incorporated into automotive products throughout their lifetime, with specific requirements for software development.
